Emerge oh8!

This summer, 3 groups of youth from Toronto, Nairobi, and Rio came together to learn from one another, share experiences and connect. As a way of supporting the innovative and community rooted projects coming out of these communities, Emerge: Toronto is hosting a fundraiser on November 27th at ElMocambo.

100% of the proceeds will go to both projects in Rio and in Nairobi.

Bridging Divides ’08 is Schools Without Borders’ latest Brazil/Kenya/Canada social and cultural exchange to be run with their partners in Brazil and Kenya. The exchange will bring together 3 groups of dynamic young leaders from Rio, Nairobi and Toronto who have assumed roles as community activists in their home countries. The program embraced the idea of action and experience based. The objective of the exchange is to share best practices, address a variety of social/political/cultural issues and build on the idea of self and community awareness on both t a local and international level.

The following are themes that will be addressed by the exchange participants through activities, discussions, community visits, and personal relfection:

– Social exclusion

– Systemic and Political Oppression

– Identity and Culture

– Racism

– Youth Engagement

– Grassroots Community Initiatives

– Sexuality

Bridging Divides ‘08 é o mais recente intercâmbio cultural e social entre Brasil/Quênia/Canadá a ser realizado pela Escolas Sem Fronteiras em conjunto com seu parceiros no Brasil e Quênia. O intercâmbio vai aproximar três grupos dinâmicos de jovens lideranças do Rio, Nairobi, e Toronto, que atuam na área social em seus respectivos paises. Esse programa abraça a idéia de aprendizagem através da ação e vivencia, tendo como seus objetivos: compartilhar metodologias e práticas, encarar diversos problemas sociais, políticos, e culturais, e desenvolver os conceitos de individualidade e comunidade, ambos em nível global e local.

Os temas abaixo vão ser o foco principal do programa, vão ser colocados através de atividades, discussões, visitas comunitárias, e nas relações pessoais criadas.
